Snow Days

It’s a snow day as I write this post. The world seems to have stopped for a bit or at least slowed down with a quiet hush. It’s warm and cozy inside while we watch the outside world disappear beneath a blanket of white. We sip some hot tea or cocoa while we wait for a little less ice and a little warmer temperatures to go back outside to enjoy skiing, sledding, skating, and snow shoeing.

Today is a great day to read a book. I actually read this book, Ten Ways to Hear Snow by Cathy Camper, outdoors! It was posted page by page in our local park so you could read along as you walked (or skied) through the snow. Don’t you love creative librarians? I found the book’s focus on listening to the presence and absence of sound a wonderful reminder to pause whenever we are outdoors . . .

To listen. To nature.

In addition to the ten ways to hear snow, there’s another magical element to this story that happens indoors and involves warm, cozy cooking.

Happy reading, listening, and skiing!
